I've always known that I wanted to have kids and I've always enjoyed good design so before I got pregnant I started reading all the mommy design blogs out there pretty religiously - ohdeedoh, designmom, etc. Everything on those sites was pretty much delicious to me and when I got pregnant I started to dream about how the nursery would be and what things I wanted to get. The Stokke crib? Oh yeah. The Luca glider? Yes PLEASE.
Then my husband and I sat down and figured out our budget - $1000 for EVERYTHING. And by everything I mean everything - furniture, carseat, stroller, clothes, everything. So instead of the $1000 Stokke crib I got a $100 one from IKEA. Sure it's not as elegant, but it's simple and, not too surprisingly, my child sleeps in it pretty well. Instead of the Luca glider of my dreams, we got a simple rocking chair off Ebay for $100. And so on.
So here I am, someone who loves good design and who has come to hate paying too much for it. Don't get me wrong, I still love reading design blogs, but for the most part I realize that I'm never going to be that person who pays $50 for a onesie. So I'm searching for bargains and sharing them and my parenting experience as I go.
